Jewelry Cleaning and Care
Congratulations on your new DUR jewelry piece!
It has been crafted from fine 925 sterling silver, often combined with beautiful natural materials such as pearls, gemstones, beach sand, or lava sand. At DUR Schmuck, we maintain the highest quality standards both in the craftsmanship of our workshops and in the careful selection of our materials. We want you to enjoy your jewelry for many years to come!
That’s why we would like to share a few care tips:
• Always store your jewelry in a dry place and, if possible, protected from air exposure — for example in a drawer, inside the satin pouch we provide, or in a jewelry box. The bathroom is NOT a suitable place, as the high humidity there causes silver jewelry to oxidize much faster. Oxidation refers to the typical tarnishing of silver jewelry, caused by impurities in the air and through daily wear.
• Wear your jewelry every day, but NOT during sports, swimming, gardening, or similar activities. Sweat and chlorine are aggressive substances. Perfume, hairspray, cosmetics, or even medications you take can also affect your jewelry. We recommend putting on your jewelry only after your personal styling routine — as the finishing highlight.
• Always remove rings before washing your hands! Rings require special care because they are exposed to much greater stress on our active hands than, for example, stud earrings or short necklaces.
• Just like your clothes, home, car, or bicycle, your jewelry should also be cleaned regularly. The easiest way is to gently brush it with an old toothbrush in a mild dish soap solution. Jewelry cleaning dips from jewelry stores or drugstores also work very well, but should always be used according to the instructions and rinsed off thoroughly afterwards. Be careful with jewelry containing stones or similar materials! Materials such as beach sand, lava sand, stone sand, coral, or kyanite must not come into contact with the cleaning liquid from a dip bath. Smooth polished silver can easily be cleaned by polishing it with a special silver care cloth.
